Margaret Qualley and Callum Turner Are Playing the Doomed Couple in a Remake of One of the Most Disturbing Horror Films Ever Made

The movie being remade is “Possession,” Andrzej Żuławski’s 1981 cult horror film, a Cold War nightmare about a marriage collapsing into something monstrous. It’s remembered above all for Isabelle Adjani’s Cannes-winning performance and a subway-tunnel breakdown routinely cited as one of the most extreme scenes in horror. Now Parker Finn, the mind behind “Smile,” is bringing it back.

Paramount has dated its remake for June 11, 2027, opening wide in theaters. Margaret Qualley will play a woman in Cold War Berlin who abruptly asks her spy husband, played by Callum Turner, for a divorce, then unravels into violent, otherworldly behavior he tries to trace by hiring a detective.

Finn is directing from his own script. Robert Pattinson is producing, alongside Finn and Jonathan Fass through Bad Feeling and Roy Lee and Andrew Childs through Vertigo.

Qualley and Turner take the roles Adjani and Sam Neill originated. Diego Calva, Madeline Brewer, Emory Cohen, Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Paul Dano fill out the cast.
