Ryan Murphy Says His Favorite ‘American Horror Story’ Season Is the One Fans Hate the Most

Ryan Murphy picked the season most fans spent years dragging, and he’s not backing down. Asked at the premiere of “American Horror Story: 13” this week, the writer told Page Six that “Roanoke,” the show’s sixth season, is the one he loves best.

“That is my favorite season; it’s my favorite form,” he said. “I loved making it because it was playing with form.”

“Roanoke” was built as a fake paranormal documentary called “My Roanoke Nightmare,” following a couple who left Los Angeles for a haunted farmhouse in a remote part of North Carolina. Murphy says opinion has shifted since it aired.

“‘Roanoke’ started off being everyone’s most hated season, but now it’s kind of getting up there,” he said. “A lot of people are discovering it and it’s become a lot of people’s favorite, so I’m like, ‘Justice for ‘Roanoke!””

His cast isn’t unanimous. Sarah Paulson told Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet that she can’t stand it, and that people get mad at her for saying so.

“I don’t care,” Paulson said. “Bite me! Bite me hard! I don’t give a s–t, sorry!”

New episodes of Season 13 air Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on FX and stream on Hulu the next day.
