Darkwing Duck is coming back — and he’s bringing some big-name voices with him. Mark Hamill will voice Drake Mallard, better known as the caped crime-fighter Darkwing Duck, while Seth Rogen steps in as his bumbling sidekick Launchpad McQuack in a newly ordered animated reboot for Disney+.
The revival puts a new spin on the hero. This time the story finds Darkwing trapped for 35 years in an alternate world where his superhero career has been forgotten, until a rebellious teenager named Duckie drags him back into action.
Variety reports that Lizzy Caplan will voice Gosalyn Mallard, with Lilimar as Duckie, Dan Stevens as Glade McTowers, Tiffany Shepis as Rosa, Kathryn Newton as Firecracker, Teo Briones as Timb, Tyler Dean Flores as Pondsy, Katie Rich as Officer Shanks and Nat Faxon as Officer Webb. Old enemies Negaduck and Megavolt return alongside allies including Gosalyn, Launchpad and Morgana.
Behind the scenes, Sean Tretta and Borja Peña Gorostegui are writing and executive producing. Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Alex McAtee and Gabby Grantham are producing through Point Grey Pictures, with original series creator Tad Stones consulting during development.
The series order arrives nearly six years after the reboot first entered development. Stones created the original Darkwing Duck, which ran for three seasons and 91 episodes from 1991 to 1992, with Jim Cummings voicing Darkwing, Christine Cavanaugh as Gosalyn and Terry McGovern as Launchpad.
Darkwing and Gosalyn later resurfaced in the DuckTales reboot, where Darkwing began as a fictional TV hero before Drake Mallard took on the identity himself. Stones said the new team has ramped up the action and comedy while keeping the show’s “Disney heart.”
