Beware Boiúna was released in over 1,000 U.S. theaters on October 2. On Oct. 9 it was reduced to 151 theaters, and then it was gone before the next Friday rolled around. The movie made less than $1 million worldwide according to Box Office Mojo.
I’m not saying that because I’m happy about it. I’m saying that because I’m disappointed. The trailers for the movie looked pretty good, and I enjoy watching both Kiana Madeira and Jessica Rothe. Also, a movie like this failing to capture audiences’ attention means there might be fewer giant-animal movies given the green light in the future. Which is sad. But enough about that.
Beware Boiúna is about a group of people going on a humanitarian mission into the Amazon rainforest. They run into trouble with some bad people on the river they’re floating down, and further downriver they end up encountering a legendary snake, the Boiúna.
Mike P. Nelson (Wrong Turn 2021, Silent Night Deadly Night 2025) directed Beware Boiúna from a script by Alan B. McElroy (Halloween 4, Wrong Turn 2003 & 2021).
As I write this, Beware Boiúna is available at home digitally, but only as a purchase. I’m sure rentals will be available soon, but maybe since its turnaround from theater to digital was so quick, they’re trying digital purchases first. Whatever the reason, it’s available on most major platforms including Prime Video, Fandango at Home, and more.
