Horror journalist BJ Colangelo has found a different kind of scare in the 1990 *It* miniseries: Richard Thomas’s ponytail.

The moment comes during Bill’s visit to his brother Georgie’s grave. The scene has Pennywise waiting for him, but the real scare is the ponytail hidden in plain sight the entire time.

There’s a book-to-screen twist, too. Stephen King’s novel describes an older Bill who’s losing his hair; Thomas’s Bill has enough to tie back. The ponytail had drawn notice long before Colangelo’s post: a 2018 University of Birmingham essay described it as “hippyish,” and Looper pointed to it in 2019 as a striking departure from the novel.
