V/H/S/Mixtape is the ninth main entry in the franchise. This time the themes that connect the story segments are music and sound as sources of horror.
The frame story features the metal band GWAR as our hosts for the movie, and they even show a few musical interludes from directors Flying Lotus and Tobias Forge.
The other segments are:
“Dance, Dance, Dance, Dance” – A puppet show (featuring work from Jim Henson’s Creature Shop) from the past attempts a revival. Directed by Renee Zhan.
“Heartbeat” – Urban explorers enter an abandoned base where sonic experiments were conducted. Directed by David Moreau.
“The Music of Mr. Sze” – A film student investigates the work of a reclusive musician. Directed by Ernest Dickerson.
“Death Tone” – A sound engineer restarts her late father’s work. Directed by RZA.
V/H/S/Mixtape is streaming now on Shudder and AMC+.
