The Walking Dead premiered on AMC on Halloween in 2010, introducing Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes and a world where surviving the dead meant facing the living, too.

Rick Grimes sets the tone early in the series: “All I am anymore is a man looking for his wife and son. Anybody gets in the way of that is gonna lose.”

Frank Darabont developed the series from the comics by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore and Charlie Adlard. Its survivors faced zombies called “walkers” and human communities with competing rules and morals.

Starting with season 3, it drew more viewers ages 18 to 49 than any other series on cable or broadcast television.

The original series ran for 11 seasons and 177 episodes before ending on November 20, 2022.

Its cast included Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan and Danai Gurira, and its world expanded through spin-offs including Fear the Walking Dead, Dead City, Daryl Dixon and The Ones Who Live.
