We Still Have a While to Wait for the ‘Talk to Me’ Sequel, but That’s for the Best

In the meantime, the Philippou Brothers have a deathmatch wrestling documentary nearing completion.

Talk to Me was the best horror movie released in 2023. Directed by Michael and Danny Philippou, it is a chilling spin on the possession genre that will stick with you long after you’ve seen it.

As one of the more highly regarded horror films in recent memory, it wasn’t surprising when a sequel to Talk to Me was announced not long after its initial release. However, it’s been nearly two years since we learned that there will be a sequel, and we now know that the wait will continue on for quite a while. But that’s not a bad thing.

In a recent talk with Bloody Disgusting, the Philippou brothers explained that they wanted to take some time away from the world they created with Talk to Me. In their words, “it’s about stepping away from the world and then coming back into it super reinvigorated. So that’s why we didn’t do [Talk 2 Me] next.”

Will Talk 2 Me see the return of any characters from the first movie?

I consider Talk to Me to be one of the very best movies of the current decade. So, since I’m such a big fan of it, news of having to wait even longer for part two is a little disappointing. However, they reaffirmed in their talk that they are working on the sequel, which is good. Plus, it sounds like they’re excited about it, and that’s the best news we could have heard. Taking time away and making a sequel that they want and need to tell is much better than making a quick sequel to cash in on the success of the original.

If their first feature film is any indication, the Philippou brothers have a clear vision when it comes to filmmaking, so any length of time we have to wait for their next movie is going to be completely worth it.

Besides, it’s not like they’re not making other movies in the meantime. Bring Her Back releases in North America on May 30th, and it already looks amazing.

Also, Michael and Danny spoke about a pro-wrestling documentary they’re currently working on which is “probably about 60-70 percent” complete. It’s apparently about death matches, which are ultra-violent wrestling matches often filled with lots of blood and instruments of destruction (like barbed wire, light tubes, panes of glass, thumbtacks, etc.). I love wrestling, but I had no idea the Philippou’s were so into it. Upon reading that, I looked up what I could about their connection to pro-wrestling, and it goes back years.

Michael has even participated in death matches, most recently (I believe) in an untelevised match at the end of GCW’s Role Model PPV on March 23rd, 2024. Billed as “Racka Racka,” Michael competed against Jimmy Lloyd in a “Dark Glass Ceiling Match.” Jimmy Lloyd won, and, in the clips I’ve been able to see, at one point he drives Michael Philippou through a stacked structure of two tables, a wooden door, two metal chairs, and a flaming pane of glass, all while diving from a scaffolding.

Looking at the Philippou brothers’ YouTube channel RackaRacka, Michael has also competed in a few death matches dressed as Ronald McDonald, a recurring character on the channel. It looks like the brothers are definitely passionate about the subject, so I can’t wait to see their documentary!

But I can wait for Talk 2 Me. They’re taking their time to make it great, which is for the best.
