Released October 31, 2026, on HBO Max, the surprise Halloween special of It: Welcome to Derry follows a native warrior who saves 3 young people from the creature in the forbidden Western Wood, then serves them human meat.

The special follows 3 young people, including Necani, into the forbidden Western Wood. The warrior saves them with a dagger fashioned from fragments of the meteorite that once imprisoned the entity. A vision from the cosmic turtle Maturin led him to those fragments.

He’s the last survivor of his hunting party or village. The creature, known to the Shokopiwah people as the Kollu or Galloo, slaughtered his people and appeared at one point as a giant moose.

As he feeds the kids, he explains that the entity feeds on fear and wants its victims terrified before it eats them. Then 1 of the girls discovers what’s in their meal. Their rescuer has come to worship the creature as a god, offering it human sacrifices and eating the remains himself.

The kids escape with his dagger. Left without its protection, the warrior is killed by the creature.
The special expands the origin story outlined in Season 1, tracing how the Shokopiwah came to use the meteorite fragments to build 13 pillars that confine the entity to the area that becomes Derry.
