Sweet Meats (2024)
The music perfectly fits the tone of the tone of the movie.

Sweet Meats tells the story of Bobby Sweet and his rise from a dead-end job to becoming a successful restaurateur and country-music legend. This is a Troma release, so as you might expect the movie is very silly, kind of dumb, and a bit bloody. It has a micro-budget charm to it, and it’s good fun for fans of the Troma style. The jokes range from eye-rolling to genuinely funny, so the comedy is the best reason to watch Sweet Meats.

Sweet Meats (2024)
There is some blood in the movie, though I could’ve used more (but maybe that’s just me).

One issue I have is that the story feels too one-note. The main part of the story is told as a flashback, so we already know basically where Bobby Sweet will end up. The bulk of the movie shows us a very straightforward way of getting to a conclusion that we already know, and even the most dramatic moment fizzles out in the end. There’s just not much meat on the bone here. So, it’s the music (which is depicted essentially as a series of music-video interludes rather than having the characters breaking out into song within a scene) and the humor that carry the film’s interest. It works well if that’s all you’re looking for. So, Sweet Meats is good, not great, but definitely worth a watch for Troma fans.
