New Movies Released Yesterday (Trailers & Previews)

Chainsaws Were Singing

Chainsaws Were Singing was filmed in 2013, but it took 11 years before it made its first festival run (and an additional year before it hit streaming in North America).

Chainsaws Were Singing is an Estonian cannibal-horror-musical about a man who attempts to rescue his girlfriend from a maniac with a chainsaw. Reviews are largely positive for this movie so far, and it’s definitely one I’ll be checking out soon. It’s available to rent on Amazon.

Blood Star

The YouTube writeup describes Blood Star as a “desert noir.”

A small-town sheriff on a power trip targets a woman driving through the New Mexico desert. This looks like it might have a retro feel to it, maybe something like The Hitcher (1986). You can rent Blood Star on Fandango at Home.

Eva Green (seen here in an episode of Penny Dreadful) joins the Addams family in season three of Netflix’s Wednesday.
  • Eva Green is joining Wednesday season three as Aunt Ophelia! Ophelia was referenced during season two, and in the final episode of the season she was seen (from behind) writing “Wednesday must die” on the wall of the cell where she’s been imprisoned. There is no release date for season three yet, but it’s expected sometime in the summer of 2027. (Tudum)
  • A movie described as “Battle Royale meets Saw meets Climax” will be directed by Alex Ullom (It Ends). The film is titled 4 X 4: The Event, and it will be produced by Spooky Pictures and Image Nation who previously co-produced Watcher (2022). There are no specific plot details yet for 4 X 4: The Event, nor is there an estimated release date. (Deadline)
