12 Highly-Anticipated Horror Movies Releasing in the Second Half of 2025

July 30: Together

Real life couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie star in this body horror movie as a married couple at a crossroads. The couple moves to the country and encounter a supernatural force that changes their minds and bodies.

August 8: Weapons

From Barbarian writer/director Zach Cregger, Weapons stars Josh Brolin and Julia Garner as two members of a small Florida community where all the children have suddenly gone missing. The first teaser for Weapons went viral after it was shown at CinemaCon last spring and the movie’s release date was moved up from January 2026 to August 2025.

September 5: The Conjuring: Last Rites

Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson return as Lorraine and Ed Warren in The Conjuring: Last Rites. The story is based on the “true story” of Ed and Lorraine’s investigation into a haunting the Smurl family experienced in 1986. The case was previously the basis of a 1991 made-for-television movie called The Haunted.

September 12: The Long Walk

A dystopian horror movie based on the Stephen King novel of the same name. A group of boys sign up for a contest in which they walk at a speed of 3 mph (or die) until only one remains to claim the prize.

September 19: Him

Produced by Jordan Peele and directed by Justin Tipping, Him is a highly-anticipated sports horror movie about a promising young football player (Tyriq Withers) who is invited to train with his team’s legendary quarterback (Marlon Waynes).

September 26: The Strangers — Chapter 2

The second of three Strangers movies directed by Renny Harlin. The story picks up with Chapter 1‘s Maya (Madelaine Petsch) as The Strangers continue to hunt her. Chapter 2‘s release has been delayed after Chapter 1 was poorly received, so hopefully they’ve used the extra time to make improvements and get this trilogy back on track.

October 2: Hell House LLC: Lineage

The fifth and final entry into the Hell House LLC franchise. Vanessa Shepard discovers her connection to the Abaddon Hotel, Carmichael Manor, and decades of unexplained murders. Hell House LLC: Lineage will hit limited theaters on August 20 before premiering on Shudder on October 2.

October 17: The Black Phone 2

 Scott Derrickson returns to direct with Ethan Hawke, Mason Thames, Madeleine McGraw, Jeremy Davies, and Miguel Cazarez Mora reprising their roles. Finn recovers from his time in captivity while his sister begins receiving calls from the black phone in her dreams. The Black Phone was based on a story by Joe Hill, and he approved Derrickson’s idea for the sequel’s plot.

November 2025: Frankenstein

Written and directed by Guillermo del Toro, Frankenstein is a highly anticipated gothic sci-fi movie that may not actually be a horror movie. del Toro says he sees the film as a “Miltonian tragedy” based on Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein novel. Official release date is TBD but Frankenstein is expected to premiere on Netflix sometime in November 2025.

November 14: Keeper

Plot details are scarce on Oz Perkin’s upcoming horror movie. IMDB’s plot synopsis says only: “A dark trip from Osgood Perkins.” We pretty much just know that it stars stars Tatiana Maslany and Rossif Sutherland.

December 5: Five Nights at Freddy’s 2

Emma Tammi returns to direct this sequel based on the video game series. Original cast members Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Lail, Piper Rubio, and Matthew Lillard will return along with new cast members Skeet Ulrich, Wayne Knight, Mckenna Grace, and Teo Briones. The promise of Matthew Lillard and Skeet Ulrich on screen together again is something for horror fans to salivate over until Freddy’s 2 release in December.

December 12: Silent Night, Deadly Night

Rohan Campbell from everyone’s favorite Halloween sequel (pictured) stars as Billy Chapman.

A remake of the 1984 Christmas horror movie. A little boy witnesses a man in a Santa suit murder his parents. Years later he dons the suit himself and sets off on a violent quest for revenge.
