First Look at the Trailer for Destry Allyn Spielberg’s ‘Please Don’t Feed the Children’

A couple of weeks ago we told you about Destry Allyn Spielberg’s feature film directorial debut heading to Tubi this month. Well, the trailer for her movie, Please Don’t Feed the Children is now here!
The official description for Please Don’t Feed the Children mentions a group of orphans on the run after a deadly viral outbreak, and a woman with a “sinister secret” who takes the kids hostage. The trailer adds some much needed context. Check it out:
So, the adult population was decimated by a virus, and the surviving adults blame kids for the outbreak for reasons we’ll hopefully find out in the movie. The young people we follow in the movie are on the run, “escaping” from somewhere. They find a woman living alone in a big, isolated house, and she locks them up for nefarious purposes that we’ll find out when the movie is released. There also appears to be an element of the woman “replacing” her real daughter with one of the girls she’s taken prisoner.
The premise sounds fine. Definitely a lot of potential depending on how the bigger ideas are handled. I do think that keeping the movie focused on a smaller scale within a larger world is a good idea for a director’s first feature. That allows them to focus on thrills and tension without having to contend with a complex story. But hey, Destry Allyn Spielberg is the daughter of Steven Spielberg and Kate Capshaw, so I bet she has a solid grasp on storytelling.
I think it’s interesting that the movie is going straight to Tubi. I’ve always enjoyed Tubi, but they have definitely been making moves over the past few years to make their service feel more mainstream. I love them for their decidedly NOT mainstream offerings, especially in their horror library. The horror side of their Tubi Originals have been fun overall, and some are quite good. Please Don’t Feed the Children feels like a step in the more mainstream direction for them with names like Spielberg, Michelle Dockery, and Giancarlo Esposito attached to it. I hope the movie is a success for them. It looks good so far.
