The horror in Obsession (2026) isn’t just what Nikki goes through, it’s what happens after the credits roll.
At the end of Obsession, the spell is broken and Bear is dead. In a lot of horror movies this means the threat is over and the heroine is saved. But Nikki doesn’t get a happy ending.
She’s the one left standing over the bodies, and the cops have no reason to believe a curse made her do it.
Being possessed by Bear’s wish ruined Nikki’s life. Bear’s obsession forced her to commit murders and now that he’s gone, she’s the only one left to answer for them. There’s no version of the investigation where police land on a supernatural explanation, so the dots connect straight to her.
That’s what makes the ending so grim: breaking free of Bear doesn’t set her free at all. She’s likely headed to prison for a very long time for crimes she never chose, and the man who did this to her is beyond the reach of the law.
Writer and director Curry Barker confirmed Nikki is completely screwed. Bear set her on a path to destruction and then left her alone to deal with the consequences.
There was an even more gruesome alternate ending, where Nikki ends it right there with the gun she’s holding. But being alive, of sound mind, and trapped facing the consequences of someone else’s actions seems like the more horrific fate.
