The gore in Crystal Lake is practical, not digital, and star Linda Cardellini says shooting some scenes got so bloody it made her wish for CGI. “There’s a couple of gory moments on set that were very practical that were pretty gross. Blood everywhere at one point,” she told Variety.

Produced by A24, Crystal Lake premieres Oct. 15 on Peacock and follows Pamela Voorhees before the events of the first Friday the 13th film. Cardellini plays Pamela, the character who first appeared in the 1980 original as Jason’s mother and killed to avenge his 1957 drowning at Camp Crystal Lake.

The eight-episode series gave Cardellini a switch she’d never played. Most horror scripts she’s read cast her as the one being chased. “It was really fun this time to be on the other side of the knife,” she said. Her horror credits include Strangeland (1998) and The Curse of La Llorona (2019).

Crystal Lake will also star William Catlett, Devin Kessler, Callum Vinson, Cameron Scoggins, and Gwendolyn Sundstrom.
