Her Private Hell has been one of the more polarizing releases of 2026, with the overall consensus leaning towards the negative. But don’t let that stop you if you want to check it out, because it’s now available to watch at home on VOD.
Her Private Hell is the latest film from Nicolas Winding Refn, the director of well-liked movies such as Drive (2011), and more divisive movies like The Neon Demon (2016) and Only God Forgives (2013). If it matters, my personal favorite NWR movie is Bronson (2008).
The feel of Her Private Hell looks like a giallo filtered through the lens of a neon, mist-covered neo-noir. Sophie Thatcher stars as an actress named Elle who is making a movie with her filmmaker father Johnny Thunders. Meanwhile, Private K (Charles Melton) is hunting a killer known as The Leather Man, believing that the leather-clad murderer did something to his daughter.
Nicolas Winding Refn directed Her Private Hell, and he co-wrote the film with Esti Giordani.
In addition to Sophie Thatcher and Charles Melton, the main cast includes Havana Rose Liu, Dougray Scott, and Jason Hendil-Forssell.
Her Private Hell debuted at the Cannes Film Festival in May of 2026, and it received an extended standing ovation as well as a few walkouts. So, it’s been divisive since the beginning.
Neon distributed the film in U.S. theaters beginning July 24, 2026. As of August 25, 2026, it’s available digitally on most major VOD platforms (including Prime Video, Fandango at Home, and more).
