Actress Margaret Qualley is taking on Isabelle Adjani’s role in a new version of the 1981 horror film Possession.

While promoting Love of Your Life at a New York screening, the 31-year-old spoke about making the remake with writer-director Parker Finn, whose previous film was Smile.

“I loved making that movie. I’m really excited about it,” Qualley said. She also voiced her confidence in the filmmaker: “I really believe in Parker Finn, the director.”

The original paired Adjani with Sam Neill and centered on a marriage breaking apart, with the wife’s behavior becoming increasingly erratic during a divorce. Qualley’s costars in the remake include Callum Turner, Diego Calva, Paul Dano, Madeline Brewer and Nicholas Alexander Chavez.

Adjani, 71, has met Qualley. During a May interview at the Cannes Film Festival, she recalled a dinner-party conversation in which Qualley said she resembled Adjani more than her own mother, actress Andie MacDowell. Adjani suggested that resemblance had influenced the casting and praised Qualley: “Besides, she’s incredibly talented!”
The remake project emerged in 2024 with Finn and Robert Pattinson attached. Pattinson, 40, is producing and won’t appear in the cast. Possession is scheduled to reach theaters on June 11, 2027.
