Francis Lawrence is teaming with Paramount Pictures to direct Red Rising, a story about a miner who infiltrates the ruling class on a future Mars. The Hunger Games filmmaker’s new adaptation centers on Darrow, whose quest for revenge after the death of the woman he loves puts him up against the elite Golds.

Darrow comes from the bottom of a rigid class system. His attempt to bring down those at the top takes him inside their ranks, making that hierarchy the target of the story.

Pierce Brown’s 2014 novel launched a series with 6 books published and a 7th on the way. Justin Rhodes, who also worked with Lawrence on the BioShock adaptation for Netflix, will write the screenplay.

Lawrence will produce with Cameron MacConomy and Francesco Goedhuis, while Brown will serve as an executive producer.
