While speaking to Josh Horowitz of Happy Sad Confused, Jenna Ortega opened up about her experiences while filming the first season of Wednesday. For starters, she didn’t think she was connecting with director Tim Burton.

“I had never worked with someone like Tim before. And Tim is very, very shy,” Ortega said. “When you initially start working with him, he does not speak. . . Now I know Tim, but it was things like that that just felt like, ‘okay, well, I’m not clicking with him.’”
She said that Burton opened up the more they got to know each other, and that his quietness was a way to give Ortega space as a performer.
Maybe more surprising though, is that Jenna Ortega did not think Wednesday was not going to work at all. She said she was sent episodes to watch prior to their release, but she “couldn’t make it through the first five minutes.” She explains that she doesn’t like to watch herself which added to her reaction, but overall she was “mortified.”
“So when people started freaking out over it, or I started getting recognized, or there was a sudden burst and sort of explosion and everything, it really felt like some sick mind game.”
She added that now, three seasons into the show, there is complete comfort on set between herself, the rest of the cast and crew, and the show itself.
Wednesday season three is expected sometime in 2027.
