Bloodious Games and Story Kitchen announced on October 26 that they’re developing a feature film set in the world of MADiSON, the first-person psychological horror game where you play Luca, a teenage boy who wakes in his family home covered in blood and has to complete a demonic ritual armed with a possessed Polaroid camera.

Story Kitchen is a production company that specializes in turning games into movies, with the Tomb Raider animated series for Netflix, Life Is Strange for Prime Video, and Streets of Rage for Lionsgate in the works.

For MADiSON there’s no director, writer, cast, or release date yet, and no distribution partner, though the company says it’s aiming for a theatrical release.

Alexis Di Stefano, the game’s creator and director, called the film “the next chapter.” Back in a 2023 interview, Di Stefano said he’d always wanted this: “I wrote MADiSON’s script as if it was meant to be a film, and then tried to adapt everything to the game as directly as possible.”

The camera is the piece critics singled out. Reviewers described shaking a Polaroid in the dark, not knowing whether the flash would reveal a dead end or a demon, with photos cracking frames, opening doors, or exposing writing on a blank wall. It’s a scare that works on screen without inventing anything new.

The game earned a reputation to match. A 2022 heart-rate study by UK site Broadband Choices, which had 200 people play horror games while monitoring their pulse, called 2022’s MADiSON “the scientifically scariest video game ever made,” clocking an average 97 BPM, ahead of Alien: Isolation.

There’s more of the house coming regardless of the movie. The developer also announced The Maxwells’ Curse, a free story expansion arriving in 2027 for everyone who owns the game, set after the events of MADiSON with a new character named Alyssa.
