David could be the link to a new Alien movie now being developed at 20th Century Studios, with Prisoners writer Aaron Guzikowski reportedly hired to write the script. The reported connection points toward the unfinished story of Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, though Michael Fassbender is not attached to return as the android.

The project is still in very early development. Ridley Scott and Michael Pruss are producing through Scott Free, and J.R. Young is overseeing it for the studio.

Guzikowski previously created Raised by Wolves, which Scott executive produced and directed the first 2 episodes of.

The David connection remains an anonymously sourced report. The same reporting describes this as a separate project from a Romulus sequel, which remains in limbo. Another trade confirmation of Guzikowski’s hiring left the film’s relationship to Romulus unresolved.

Scott has already described wanting to continue David’s story, though those comments came in August, before news of Guzikowski’s hiring. He said David would be creating a “brave new world for himself” and explained the danger he saw in artificial intelligence: “AIs can go off,” Scott said. “And if they do, it’s like a bomb.”

That gives the reported prequel connection some context, but it does not establish that Guzikowski is writing the film Scott described. The relationship between those 2 projects hasn’t been confirmed.

Scott is not attached to direct at this stage, and no other director has been announced. The film also has no announced title, cast, production start or release date.
