Eli Roth Announced His Next Movie and Promises It Will Be His ‘Most Terrifying and Insane Film to Date’

Roth’s partners said they believe ‘The Ice Cream Man’ will be the “next great horror franchise.”

Writer and director Eli Roth (left) has also spent time in front of the camera, like portraying Donny “The Bear Jew” Donowitz in Inglourious Basterds (2009).

Twenty years ago filmmaker Eli Roth had an idea for a horror movie about a town where an ice cream man dishes out terror to children by way of his frozen treats. This idea will become his next film, The Ice Cream Man, which is set to hit theaters in late spring or early summer 2026. Roth wrote the screenplay and will produce and direct. He says The Ice Cream Man will be his most “terrifying and insane film to date.”

The film is co-financed by The Horror Section, Roth’s own studio he created in order to maintain creative control over his projects. The Horror Section studio also ensures the filmmaker will be able to make the kind of horror movies bigger studios are afraid to fund. Roth told Variety: “Films like ‘Ice Cream Man’ are what we created The Horror Section for, to make unrated, boundary-pushing theatrical events the horror fans can all scream about for years.”

Roth’s film is unrelated to the 1995 horror comedy with the same name. According to Variety, the plot of The Ice Cream Man is about “an idyllic summer town descending into madness when an ice cream man serves kids sweet delights with horrifying results. His partners at Media Capital Technologies (MCT) said they believe The Ice Cream Man will be the “next great horror franchise”.
