Even after the success of Orphan (2009) prequel, Orphan: First Kill, in 2022 it was unclear whether we would ever get a third Orphan movie. This is because franchise star Isabelle Furhman is a real human being who ages. How long can the 28-year-old actress believable play a young woman who can be mistaken for a child? Furhman is the heart and soul of the Orphan movies and thankfully the team, led by director William Brent Bell, has been adamant that she retain the lead role.
The first Orphan movie saw Furhman as Esther, a supposedly 9-year-old Russian girl who is adopted by American parents. Her violent behavior begins to show itself and eventually it is revealed to her new family that Esther is in fact a 33-year-old Estonian woman named Leena Klammer. A prequel, Orphan: First Kill, takes place two years earlier where Leena escapes from an institution and impersonates a missing American girl. After taking up residence with the missing girls’ family, everyone’s secrets begin to be exposed.
After years of rumors and speculation, filming has officially begin for Orphans 3, titled Orphans. William Brent Bell will direct a screenplay written by David Coggeshall. And yes, Isabelle Furhman will reprise her role as Leena Klammer.

What will Orphans be about? Previously Bell told The Hollywood Reporter that “The franchise’s rulebook has been opened up to where anything is possible”. Paramount has a released a synopsis for the third Orphan movie that reads: “A ruthless con artist targets a wealthy European household, but her carefully planned scheme takes an unexpected turn when someone uncovers her dark past and vows to expose her true identity.”
