Panos Cosmatos, the director behind the Nicolas Cage acid-trip revenge movie Mandy, has finished his first feature in 8 years. His new one is an A24 vampire thriller called Flesh of the Gods, and it stars Kristen Stewart opposite Brazilian actor Wagner Moura.
Set in 1980s Los Angeles, the film follows married couple Alex and Raoul as they’re drawn into the hedonistic world of a mysterious figure named Nameless and her hard-partying circle. Cosmatos called it “a hot rod joy ride deep into the glittering heart of hell.” Stewart, who’s also a producer, said they made “a kind of magnificent nightmare together.”

It’s Cosmatos’s first feature since Mandy, which premiered in Sundance’s Midnight section in 2018. That film grossed just $1.7 million against a $6 million budget before it found a second life as a cult favorite, powered by Cage’s gleefully unhinged performance and Andrea Riseborough’s genuinely eerie turn.
Mandy was built as a limited theatrical and VOD release, then sold millions of dollars’ worth of discs, landed on Shudder and drew sold-out screenings through word of mouth. It holds a 90% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, and Jóhann Jóhannsson’s final completed score became another part of its legacy.
Flesh of the Gods was written by Andrew Kevin Walker, whose credits include Se7en, and produced by Stewart, Adam McKay and others. Principal photography wrapped in June 2026, but there’s no official release date yet. 2027 is the working assumption, so there’s time to catch up on Mandy first and see exactly what Cosmatos brings to the vampire genre.
