Watch This Thriller if You Think There Aren’t Any Good Movies on Netflix
Families are always rising and falling in America.

Netflix has added some great movies this month, and one of them is so good I submitted it as one of just 10 selections for the New York Times “Best Movies of the 21st Century” reader survey. Based on the acclaimed Hong Kong movie Infernal Affairs (2002), this movie was a huge hit critically and commercially. It earned $291.5 million against a $90 budget and received four Academy Awards (Best Picture, Best Director, Best Film Editing and Best Adapted Screenplay Writing).
The Departed is a star-studded crime thriller set in Boston. The cast includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson, Mark Wahlberg, Alec Baldwin, Vera Farmiga and Martin Sheen. Nicholson portrays a big time Irish-American gangster, Frank Costello. Martin Sheen is Queenan, a State Police Captain intent on bringing Costello down. He recruits DiCaprio’s character, Billy Costigan Jr., for a dangerous role as an undercover officer who will infiltrate Costello’s gang. On the other side, Matt Damon plays Colin Sullivan, an ambitious Staff Sergeant who is secretly Costello’s rat inside the state police. Essentially, it’s cops vs Irish gangsters with a mole embedded in each team.

The Departed is a suspenseful crime thriller, but it also happens to be one of director Martin Scorsese’s funniest movies. The potty-mouthed characters rag on each other relentlessly and provide comic relief from the intensity of the film’s dual cat-and-mouse plot. If you like dry humor and have a kind of sick sense of humor, you’ll find The Departed hysterically funny.
The Departed is currently streaming on Netflix.
