Zach Cregger's 'Resident Evil' Is Now Available to Rent at Home

Whether you loved it, hated it, or fell somewhere in-between, Zach Cregger’s take on Resident Evil is now available to rent and buy digitally.

If you believe “The Internet,” Resident Evil is one of the most divisive movies of the year. But in terms of box office results, it sits just outside the top ten for 2026 in both domestic and worldwide categories. And as for horror at the box office, it’s #3 behind only Backrooms and Obsession.

But box office dollars don’t necessarily mean a movie is good. BUT, Resident Evil is also one of the top rated films of the year according to RT (96% critics and 90% audience), and its scores on many other popular rating sites (IMDB, Metacritic, Letterboxd) are generally good.

But don’t take anyone else’s word for it. If you’ve been waiting for Resident Evil to come into your residence, now’s the time. The movie follows an everyman named Bryan (Austin Abrams) who takes a job delivering something very important and very secret to Raccoon City. The city, however, has had an outbreak that is turning living things into hideous monsters. Bryan finds this out too late though, and he has no real choice other than to keep moving towards the heart of the city.

Zach Cregger has said, among other things, that he wanted to create an original story within the Resident Evil universe (a version of the RE universe) that gives the audience a feeling similar to what they would experience while playing the games. You can judge for yourself at home, at your leisure, whether or not Cregger accomplished that goal.

Resident Evil is currently available to purchase and rent (at premium prices) on most major digital platforms including Prime Video, Fandango at Home, and more.
