The Writer/Director Behind Last Year’s ‘Strange Darling’ Wants to Make a ‘Nasty’ Horror Movie With Meryl Streep
“Like nothing she’s ever played.”

Strange Darling was last year’s surprise horror hit. It starred Kyle Gallner and Willa Fitzgerald as lovers who take turns hunting each other through a non-chronological storyline. We ranked it as the #2 horror movie of 2024.

Now, Strange Darling‘s writer and director, JT Mollner, has his sights set on an ambitious next feature. He has written a horror movie which would ideally cast Meryl Streep, who he calls “our greatest living actor”, as its star. Mollner admits attracting Streep to the project is a long shot, but he’s shooting his shot on Twitter/X:
Streep is an accomplished actor who has won three Academy Awards: Best Actress for Kramer vs. Kramer (1979), Best Actress for Sophie’s Choice (1982) and Best Actress for The Iron Lady (2011). She has been nominated for Best Actress or Best Supporting Actress 21 times. Streep has never appeared in a straight horror movie, though she starred in the black comedy body horror-like movie Death Becomes Her (1992) and the thrillers Still of the Night (1982) and The River Wild (1994).
