2026 has been a banner year for horror, and as the reviews pile up, a clear picture of the year’s best is starting to form. At the very top, two films are locked in a tie for the best-reviewed horror movie of the year: Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, which slipped from 99% to 95% as more reviews rolled in, and It Ends, a low-budget existential horror debut from writer/director Alexander Ullom that just hit 95% with about 60 critics weighing in.
Neither film got there the same way. Camp Miasma arrived with festival buzz and a splashy premise, while It Ends crept up on critics as a quiet, low-budget surprise. That they’ve landed at the exact same number says a lot about how wide the genre has stretched this year.

Here’s the full top 8 by Rotten Tomatoes critic score:

1. Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma – 95%
2. It Ends – 95%
3. Obsession – 94%
4. Send Help – 93%
5. Leviticus – 92%
6. 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple – 91%
7. Hokum – 88%
8. We Bury the Dead – 88%

Camp Miasma has been the buzz movie of the summer. Its near-perfect score only recently came off its 99% peak, and even after the dip it remains the film everyone in the genre has been talking about.

It Ends is the newer arrival, and its premise is a group of friends take a wrong turn onto a forest road that simply goes on forever. No monsters, no jump scares, just the slow-building dread of a trip that won’t end.

Just behind the leaders is Obsession, the year’s breakout hit, sitting at 94%.
Send Help (93%) and Leviticus (92%) round out the next tier, followed by 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple at 91%, the latest entry in the long-running franchise. Hokum and We Bury the Dead close out the top 8 tied at 88%.
