Netflix’s Death of the Pastor’s Wife spent three episodes on John-Paul Miller’s marriage to Mica and they don’t even mention some of the worst aspects of the case.

It never mentioned that a lawsuit accuses John-Paul of abusing a 15-year-old girl when he was a 19-year-old youth church leader. A February 2025 lawsuit accuses John-Paul Miller of hurting a 15-year-old girl in 1998, when he was a 19-year-old youth church leader.

John-Paul countersued the girl for libel in March 2025, calling her claims false, and both suits are ongoing.
There’s more.
Also not mentioned is the fact that John-Paul was convicted of assault and battery in 1998 as a teen. He hit a woman with his truck and drove nearly 100 yards with her on the hood, according to The Post and Courier. He pleaded guilty but was pardoned for the charge in 2022 by the South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services.

Then there’s John-Paul’s first wife. Alison “Ali” Williams was married to him for 16 years and didn’t sit for an interview for the docuseries. In an affidavit read on the Crime Junkie podcast, she said Mica’s account of her marriage matched her own: “many of the details shared with me, by Mica, are so similar to my own experiences with J.P. that I know she was being truthful.”

John-Paul Miller is currently awaiting trial for cyberstalking Mica before her death and lying to federal investigators about it. He has pleaded not guilty.
Death of the Pastor’s Wife is streaming on Netflix.
