“I will change the world with you, Anne!”
That’s the promise at the heart of ‘Be My Cat: A Film for Anne,’ a 2015 Romanian found footage film that Adrian Țofei wrote, directed, produced, and starred in. It’s been widely called one of the best low-budget horror movies ever made .

The film follows Adrian, a filmmaker who becomes obsessed with getting Anne Hathaway to come to Romania and star in his movie after watching her play Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises. To win her over, he hires local actresses to shoot demo reels that will prove what he can do. In one scene, he performs “surgery” on one of them to make her thinner.

From there, the line between what Adrian is filming and what he’s actually doing disappears fast. At one point he reassures the neighbors that an actress is only screaming because he’s shooting a horror movie — which is, technically, true. The result plays like a horror version of Borat, with Adrian’s guileless enthusiasm making every escalation more unsettling than the last.
Be My Cat: A Film for Anne is currently streaming free on Tubi.
