Now look, I’m not saying Fairest of Them All is great. But I AM saying I found it to be surprisingly fun.
Snow White, Cinderella, Tinkerbell, Sleeping Beauty, Ariel, and Belle are all captured by a Joker-looking Mad Hatter who uses magic to make them fight against each other to the death. The winner of the tournament will be “rewarded” with being the Mad Hatter’s bride, thereby breaking a curse he’s under.
A few of the princesses really get into the death matches, while others are more interested in finding a way out before they’re all dead (or wish they were).
The movie is cheap, the sets are completely incongruous with the story, and the whole ordeal is cheesy, but it works. Well, it works for me. It’s silly and violent enough to be fun, and there’s something about the story that works better than a lot of similarly budgeted and released movies of its type (i.e. micro-budget public-domain inspired exploitation movies from the UK, of which there are MANY).
Fairest of Them All was released digitally in the U.S. last year, and you can stream for free on Tubi.
