Nearly 30 years after “Crystal” played in the first film, Stevie Nicks is back on the soundtrack for the sequel — this time alongside Olivia Rodrigo. The two recently sang “Landslide” together in front of 45,000 people, and days later Sandra Bullock hinted that their voices would turn up in the movie.
Nicks and Rodrigo both appear on the “Practical Magic 2″ soundtrack, though they recorded their contributions separately. Rodrigo’s “The Cure” plays in one scene and “Landslide” plays in another, while Nicks completes a loop she started in 1998, when “Crystal” featured in the original.
The hint came from Bullock herself, who reposted a video of the pair’s “Landslide” duet to her Instagram story with the caption “Angel voices that are part of an upcoming film.” The duet took place at Rodrigo’s Daisy Chain Fields festival in Irvine, California, where she brought Nicks out after sets from Sarah McLachlan and Alanis Morissette.
“She reminds me of me, when I was her age, 100 years ago,” Nicks told the crowd about Rodrigo. “And I’m somewhat awestruck that she could do all this.”
Nicks had been angling to get back in for a while. She told Rolling Stone in 2024 that she planned to call the filmmakers and say, “Listen, you have to let me do a song in this, and at least jump off the roof with you guys.”
Rodrigo, for her part, has called “The Cure” — from her album “You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love” — one of her favorite songs she’s ever made. She performed it at the festival and again in Los Angeles days later while speaking with Cameron Crowe at the Grammy Museum.
“Practical Magic 2,” the sequel to the 1998 film starring Bullock and Nicole Kidman as sister witches, hits theaters September 11.
