Like many other horror movies, Grave Torture was released on Netflix with little fanfare.

Netflix is great, but they really needs to focus more on promoting horror movies to horror fans. If viewers aren’t checking the “New & Popular” section regularly, they might miss lots of worthwhile horror. For example, did you know a new Indonesian horror movie started streaming on Netflix on September 16th? Or that two more are joining it later in the month? We didn’t know that either until today!

None of the Indonesian horror movies we’ve listed here were on any official or unofficial “coming soon” lists at the beginning of September. But we’re certainly looking forward to them now! We’ll keep an eye out for more unannounced Netflix arrivals, and in the meantime you can always check our monthly Netflix recommendations for the best horror movies on the site, as well as monthly updates for the new horror being added throughout the year.

Grave Torture (2024)

Streaming now (released Sept. 16)
Grave Torture (aka Siksa Kubur) is from writer and director Joko Anwar, the filmmaker responsible for the standout Indonesian horror films The Queen of Black Magic (2019), Impetigore (2019), and Satan’s Slaves 1 & 2 (2017 & 2022).

Grave Torture tells the story of Sita, a young woman whose personal tragedies have caused her to detest and distrust the very idea of religion. She has an idea to disprove the concept of “grave torture”—the belief that sinners are punished in the grave while the virtuous are at peace—which would thereby put all religious belief into doubt. But her actions don’t provide the results she is expecting.

Para Betina Pengikut Iblis Part 2 (2024)

Streaming Thursday, September 19th.
Though this trailer does not have English subtitles, the movie will have subtitles when it arrives on Netflix.

As its title would suggest, Para Betina Pengikut Iblis Part 2 is a sequel to Para Betina Pengikut Iblis (which is also available on Netflix). The first movie is about three women in an Indonesian village who fall under the influence of a sinister force. The movie is quite bloody, and more supernatural scares and bloody situations can be expected from the sequel. Part 2 continues the story of the three demonically-influenced women, and they come into conflict with a man sent to the village to stop their reign of terror.

Do You See What I See (2024)

Streaming Friday, September 27th.
Director Awi Suryadi has made a career in the horror genre, having directed movies including KKN di Desa Penari (2022), Danur (2017), and Clown of the Dead (2015).

Mawar makes a birthday wish to find true love. She soon meets someone, but her friends notice changes in the way she acts. Who, or what, has gotten a hold on Mawar? Do You See What I See is based on an episode (Episode #64, “First Love”) of the popular Indonesian podcast of the same title. The series is about “true” horror stories, and it is curated by Mizter Popo. Unfortunately, we can’t find an English translation of the podcast episode, but we’ll keep looking. Fortunately, the movie will have subtitles.
