Tom Hanks made a surprise appearance as David S. Pumpkins on last night’s Saturday Night Live Halloween episode.
Hanks returned as the character on Saturday Night Live’s October 31 Halloween episode, with Bobby Moynihan back as a dancing skeleton. Their haunted-ride cold open featured Pumpkins’ signature question, “Any questions?”
The return came just over 10 years after Pumpkins debuted in the October 22, 2016, “Haunted Elevator” sketch.
Written by Mikey Day, Moynihan and Streeter Seidell, it followed a couple whose haunted attraction kept serving up a cheerful man wearing a pumpkin-covered black suit and 2 dancing skeletons, originally played by Day and Moynihan.
The couple wanted an explanation for this supposedly scary character. Pumpkins described himself as “his own thing” and offered his signature question: “Any questions?”
Hanks also reprised the role in 2022.
