How ‘A Quiet Place: Day One’ (2024) Will Fit in With the Rest of the Franchise

The third ‘A Quiet Place’ film will be in theaters on June 28, 2024.

Lupita Nyong’o (and her kitty) is trapped on the island of Manhattan when alien creatures who hunt by sound land in A Quiet Place: Day One (2024).

A Quiet Place: Day One is an upcoming post-apocalyptic horror movie that will serve as a prequel to A Quiet Place (2018) and A Quiet Place: Part II (2020). The first two films followed the Abbott family some time after blind alien creatures who hunt by sound have taken over Earth. The alien invasion isn’t shown at all in the first film but is briefly shown in a flashback at the beginning of Part II. Day One will focus entirely on the invasion and the early days of survival.

Joseph Quinn says the twist in Day One is that it’s nearly impossible for an entire city of people to be quiet.

This is what the Quiet Place invasion looked like in Part II, from the perspective of Lee (John Krasinski) and Evelyn (Emily Blunt) Abbott as they attend a little league game with their children in a small Upstate New York town:

And this is how the invasion is portrayed in the Day One trailer:

Lupita Nyong’o stars as Sam, a woman who witnesses the initial invasion in New York City. In the immediate aftermath she meets Eric (Joseph Quinn) and the two work together to try to get off the island of Manhattan. Alex Wolff and Eliane Umuhire also star as other survivors.

We also know that Djimon Hounsou will be reprising his A Quiet Place Part II role. In Part II, Hounsou portrayed Henri, the leader of a colony of survivors who live on an island. Henri says that in the early days of the invasion the U.S. National Guard evacuated civilians to the island after learning the alien creatures could not swim. The character is killed the following day when a creature washes ashore, but Regan Abbott (Millicent Simmonds) is able to stop the attack on the other survivors by broadcasting a high pitched frequency from her hearing aid over the island’s radio station and speakers. It seems likely that the evacuation to the island will be hinted at (or possibly even shown) in Day One.

Djimon Hounsou, Lupita Nyong’o and Alex Wolff in A Quiet Place: Day One. Hounsou has said that of the Quiet Place films, Day One is “devastating” because of the scale of the invasion and human casualties. In the same interview Alex Wolff said seeing New York City portrayed as so quiet is “surreal” and “ominous”.

Yes, people who plan to see A Quiet Place: Day One in theaters should try and watch the first two movies first (both are currently streaming on Paramount+). Not only are they great horror movies, but they show how people successfully survive the alien creatures by making extreme effort to be silent. However, A Quiet Place: Day One is a standalone story that is not about the Abbott family. There is really no information you need to know about Day One beforehand.

A Quiet Place: Day One will be in theaters on June 28, 2024.
