What Happened to Dorothy Bell?

What Happened to Dorothy Bell (2024)
Asya Meadows stars as Ozzie, and Lisa Wilcox (Alice in A Nightmare on Elm Street parts 4 and 5) appears throughout the movie in a supporting role.

Ozzie has recently learned about disturbing events from her past that her parents had kept from her. These events include the death of her grandmother, Dorothy Bell, at a local library. Ozzie starts an investigation into what happened to Dorothy, which is centered on the library where an urban legend says her spirit still resides. What Happened to Dorothy Bell uses an amalgamation of found footage and related storytelling techniques to craft a story that is well-made and nicely spooky at times, even though it does occasionally dip into cliches and contrivances. Asya Meadows is awesome as Ozzie though, and they carry the emotional weight of the story well.

The Weedhacker Massacre

The Weedhacker Massacre
The Weedhacker Massacre isn’t for me, but most other reviews I’ve seen are more positive than mine.

A low-budget film crew is making a movie about a killer on the very grounds where the murders happened. But there’s more to the story of the killer than they know, and many of the people involved in the incident are still in the area, perhaps waiting to kill again. The Weedhacker Massacre is a no-budget horror-comedy with a strong emphasis on silliness and absurdity. I personally couldn’t get into the eye-rolling style of humor they employ, and there wasn’t enough good gore to make up for the lack of laughs. If you enjoy goofy movies though, you might get a few chuckles out of this.

Cheesy Movie of the Day

Evil Breed: The Legend of Samhain (2003)

Evil Breed: The Legend of Samhain (2003)
The makeup effects used to create the malformed cannibals are excessive yet fun.

The title of this movie really should have been something like “Evil Breed: The Ancestors of Sawney Bean,” because that’s what the story is actually about. The basic plot involves a group of college students on a study-abroad trip to Ireland who are stalked by inbred cannibals. It’s suggested that the grotesque man-eaters are descendants of the Sawney Bean clan who left Scotland and settled in Ireland many years ago.

Evil Breed: The Legend of Samhain (2003)
Jenna Jameson is on the DVD cover art, and she’s given an above-the-title credit, but she’s in the movie for no more than maybe three minutes.

Evil Breed is pretty basic slasher/cannibal stuff, but it’s fun for fans of trashy, low-budget movies with a good amount of gore. There are a couple of kill scenes that are way over the top in terms of gore and violence, though you’ll have to check out the deleted scenes on the DVD for the full effect. Those scenes are edited down somewhat in the finished film, but they’re still pretty good. You can watch Evil Breed on Prime Video, free with ads.
