Here are the movies that should be on your radar this weekend (7/19):

Abigail (2024). Streaming on Peacock. The kidnapping of a 12-year-old ballerina takes a wild turn in Abigail. Part heist movie, part vampire film Abigail is a crowd pleaser of a horror film. If you liked Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett’s work on Ready or Not (2019) and Scream (2022), you will enjoy this movie.

Love Lies Bleeding (2024). Streaming on Max. A neo-noir romantic thriller set in 1989 New Mexico. Kristen Stewart stars as a gym manager who falls for a body builder (Katy O’Brian). This film is hard to categorize as there are both gritty and fantastical elements, but it will be enjoyed by people who want to see a tortured sapphic love story, Kristen Stewart fans, or anyone who wants a lil homage to Attack of the 50 Foot Woman (1958).

Alien (1979). Streaming on Hulu. With Alien: Romulus hitting theaters on August 16, it’s a good time to catch up on (or rewatch) the whole film series. All of the movies are currently streaming on Hulu. Start with Ridley Scott’s original, one of the best sci-fi horror films ever made, and let your fear of face-hugging extraterrestrials grow as your work you way through the franchise.

The After Dark (2024). Streaming on Tubi. A vampire chooses between two clans: one punk rockers and one stuck in the past. Notably, The After Dark stars David Heath, AKA the vampire Gangrel from WWF, WCW, ECW, WWE, and AEW.

Exposure (2024). Streaming on video on demand. Years ago, Tanner (played by Douglas Smith) was kidnapped, tortured, and poisoned by an unknown man, launching his life into a series of paranoid fits and compulsive behaviors. When his wife reluctantly admits that the man has been released early from prison, Tanner’s obsession gets pushed to the brink. As we watch his life rapidly unravel, we’re left wondering: is his captor still hunting him down or is it all in Tanner’s mind?
