Here are the movies that should be on your radar this weekend (5/17):

Nightwatch: Demons Are Forever (2023). Streaming on Shudder. This is a sequel to Nightwatch (1994), a Danish horror movie about a man named Martin (Game of Thrones alum Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who is reprising his role) who discovers a dark secret at the mortuary where he is a night security guard. Demons are Forever sees Martin’s daughter Emma (Fanny Leander Bornedal) taking a nighttime security job in order to learn what happened to her parents years ago. The original Nightwatch is streaming on Pluto if you need to catch up.

Killer Body Count (2024). Streaming on Tubi. A new original horror movie from Tubi. This looks to be a teen slasher movie set at a sex addict rehab facility run by evangelical Christians. Legend has it that 17-years-ago a priest lost it and murdered everyone at the center and now, the participants are dropping dead again.

Pearl: An X-traordinary Origin Story (2022). Streaming on Prime Video. If you haven’t gotten a chance to see this Ti West horror movie, it’s now streaming free for anyone with a Prime membership. A prequel to X (2022), it is the origin story of the title character Pearl (Mia Goth), a… unique young woman living on her family farm during the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic. You’ll want to see this before MaXXXine hits theaters on July 5th. The first film in the trilogy to be released, X (2022), is streaming on Netflix.

Daniel Isn’t Real (2018). Streaming on Tubi. A psychological horror movie about Luke (Miles Robbins), a college freshman who had an imaginary friend (Daniel) as a boy to help cope with the trauma of witnessing a mass shooting. Luke’s therapist thinks he could benefit from using Daniel again to help cope with life’s stressors. However, Daniel has a sadistic streak that Luke cannot control.

Beneath (2013). Streaming on Screambox. This is a fun bad horror movie about a group of friends who take a rowboat across a lake with the intention to party on a beach. However, one of the friends neglects to tell the others about a beastly, blood-thirsty fish that lives in the lake. The friends end up voting each other off the boat — and into the jaws of the aquatic monster.

Upgrade (2018). Streaming on Netflix. This excellent action sci-fi thriller stars Logan Marshall-Green as Grey, a man who was paralyzed by the same violent crime that ended his wife’s life. A billionaire inventor gives Grey an implant that repairs his ability to walk. With his new superhuman strength, Grey sets out for revenge.
